Karen Marki lives and creates her art in Vancouver, BC after moving here from San Francisco. She works primarily in acrylics on canvas and her art is inspired by her life experiences and the complex world around her. Each of Karen’s works are layers of several paintings built onto the canvas like an excavation site, encouraging the viewer to look more closely and see what lies beneath. Her process includes using unusual objects and tools to create markings and mimic the beauty of aging elements, foliage and objects from nature. She also prefers painting on hazy days as the filtered light creates the mood and sentiment of her art and her appreciation for the weathered and tarnished.
