"Breaking Through" is about that decisive moment when tension tips into transformation — when the familiar falls away, and something uncharted begins.
This piece marked one of my first true journeys into abstract expressionism. It began without a plan — simply movement, mark, and response — until gestures of paint revealed their own language: some fluid as water, others bold and impulsive. What emerged was less a picture than an emotional map, tracing undercurrents of thought and feeling that words could not hold.
At its core, "Breaking Through" captures the charged moment when opposing forces collide and something unexpected takes form. Like ocean currents meeting, the surface holds both turbulence and transformation. The layered acrylic textures and bold colour contrasts become metaphors for personal evolution — rupture giving way to renewal, vulnerability transmuting into resilience.
It invites reflection on those thresholds we all encounter: moments of pressure that break us open, and in doing so, reveal the courage to move forward changed.
