About the Artwork

This piece evolved from layers of colour, texture, and gesture, where rose-like forms and delicate tracings seem to emerge and dissolve again. Shades of magenta, pink, and soft grey carry both vibrancy and quietness, evoking the sense of stepping into a place where beauty is partly hidden, waiting to be discovered.
For me, “The Secret Garden” carries a special resonance. I love to visit the real garden in Tsawwassen by this name—a refuge created in response to the grief of 9/11, designed as a place of solace and renewal. In painting this work, I found myself drawn to that same
