About the Artwork
This painting is part of a series in which I’ve placed my models in poses that recall famous historical works to invite the viewer to reflect on the differences, and similarities, in the portrayal of women in art over time. Here we see timeless beauty and confidence, and an echo of historical vanity, in an undeniably contemporary young woman. I hope that the viewer will enjoy the direct reference if they see it, get a sense of the subjects’ emotions, and feel the connection between past and present.
