About the Artwork
This painting is part of a series in which I explore the portrayal of female beauty in portraiture. My unquestionably contemporary subject is placed in a pose that echoes a portrait from the past — in this case, one of Modigliani’s. My model added her own gorgeous flavour to the beautiful lines of the classic work and therefore created something brand new that still echoes the master from the past. I invite the viewer to reflect on our concept of beauty and femininity and question whether it has changed throughout history or not.
