Kayaking has given me the opportunity to leisurely explore the water’s edge and the splendors to be found there. This remnant of a dock, washed into the shallows on Grassham Lake, for me, was a treasure. No longer a functioning whole and severed from its greater half, it lay against the shore, displayed to its best advantage in sunlight and shadow. Each board seemed to take on a character of its own with offset nails for eyes, sticking out at varying lengths, playfully casting shadows.
