About the Artwork

The painting celebrates the wind-swept County Mayo Irish shore. Two free-range rams and an ewe rest of the side of the Wild Atlantic Road while in the distance white-washed homes look out onto Claw Bay and Clare Island. The two black-faced rams are probably Suffolk sheep typically raised for meat. In free-range areas like this, Irish farmers spray paint their animals in bright colours to distinguish ownership at a distance. I choose to omit the colours on the assumption that viewers not familiar with the farmer's graffiti would think I was making an odd artistic statement.
