By late August, the land transforms into vivid harmonies of orange and red. Over the years, I have become fascinated by the aesthetic and ecological significance of burned forests — a reflection of the natural cycle of death and rebirth, a recurring theme in my work. Though much of the Yukon remains untouched, the visible impact of climate change is undeniable, with forest fires starting earlier, burning longer, and consuming vast areas. This painting captures a classic Yukon alpine vista: charred spruce forests with young Arctic willow emerging below. As glaciers vanish and wildfires intensify, I feel compelled to document these landscapes before they are changed forever.
