At just under an inch thick and only four inches tall, this tiny sculpture is literally standing on its edge, created to push the boundaries of a soft soapstone to its limits by forming sharp edges and undercuts, highlighting an already fragile medium. When I encountered Maori art in New Zealand I wanted to crawl inside the mesmerizing curves and hope this piece has done the inspiration homage.

Cat Mudryk
Burnaby, British Columbia
With her sculpture, Cat seeks to build a harmony between movement and stillness. As the completed sculpture presents itself for contemplation in its stilled state, it also represents motion and memory, as it could not exist without all the moments needed in its creation.
