About the Artwork

This painting is inspired from a backpacking trip I took on Flower Ridge in Strathcona Park. I wanted to capture atmospheric quality of the high Vancouver Island alpine that’s found at the upper most levels of the treeline, and a solitary Douglas Fir perched on the edge of the steep slope. Using a tight and somewhat geometric Impressionist approach to the work, I wanted to strike a balance between accurately depicting the vista and replicating a sense of overlooking the layers of mountain ranges as the afternoon sun shone through the passing clouds.
