In British Columbia we’re not short of beautiful vistas of sea cliffs, rugged mountains, or jewel-like glacial lakes. When I first moved here in 2015 from Ottawa, the incredible majesty of it was all I could see, and sometimes it’s all we can focus on. We’re so caught up in the extraordinary that we forget that the ordinary can be just as beautiful. This painting is a love letter to the ordinary. This work depicts a well-known landmark in Victoria, the “Leaning Tree” of Mount Douglas Park reaching for the last rays of sunlight.
