Jill Hobson
Calgary, Alberta
Jill thinks of people as vessels of connection. She focuses on genuine, supportive relationships and the goodwill that holds people together. Combining real experienced moments and sensations with the imaginary, she reframes life's journey to be hopeful and inclusive. Figures are abstracted, becoming a metaphor for the wider human condition. Boundaries are reduced, and permeable figures merge with each other and their distinct environment. Her lens reflects moving extensively displacing her from her family roots, and crisis intervention work shedding light on profound relationships. Painting empowers her to share wonder, symbolically bridge vast distances, and search for meaning. In addition to teaching and Residencies, she has paintings in international private, corporate and public collections, including care facilities and community spaces.
