Marbles evoke memories of my past, when they were children's prized possessions. A game provoked much competition for the prized 'Beauties'. I decided to take out my marble collection one day and photographed them in various settings. I spent a long time setting up my marbles and then decided on the photograph I would use. I loved the way the light streamed through the transparency of the marbles, except for the 'Beauty'. It became the subject of this painting. I usually start with my drawing and then proceed to paint in oils. This time however, I decided it would be best to do a blue acrylic underpainting. I let this dry properly and then followed with applications of oil paint. Following several layers of oil paint and the appropriate drying period, I varnished my completed painting.
