I used oil paint on a wood panel that was treated with a layer of modeling paste to give me texture. I then begin layering the oil paint with transparent coats of paint. A slow process which requires patience while the layers dry before applying another one. I like the vibrancy of the colours that is achieved with the layering of transparent coats of paint. I spotted the owl up in my tree in my backyard one day. The origins of the photograph comes from that visit.
