Reach - Full Range
The Reach: expansive washes of black juxtaposing layers of disturbed paint, line and raw splashes.
It’s safe to say that we often find ourselves attempting to “maintain” a certain level of comfort in our lives. The “Reach” series is dedicated to exploring restraint, using a limited palette, washes, inks, acrylic paint and mark-making which would extend beyond the scope of what I know to work. I’ve traded comfort with the opportunity to stretch myself into feeling the discomfort of using black and to explore depth, translucency, dark & light, large or expansive fields of colour with flickers of light or contrast. The introduction of curved shapes against my normal craggy shapes is also outside my comfort zone. While discomfort can be seen all around the world and in many forms, my personal challenge was to make my discomfort be fruitful & exciting.
