About the Artwork

Just past where the Nechako River pours into the Fraser there is a small island named Goat Island to people of my generation. Goats were raised there in the more recent past. Previous to that it was named Railway Island because it housed about 600 men as they built the railway bridge over the Fraser. Much gravel was excavated from the island in that construction and it became much smaller. Previous to that the island played a major role in the lives of the Lheidli Tenneh people living on the river banks.

Jeanette Orydzuk

Prince George, British Columbia

Jeanette uses her art to understand who she is and her place in the world. She works mostly from memory and imagination to acheive the feeling tone of an image rather than a realistic one.

"I allow myself to be versatile with media and styles because it helps me feel alive while creating and opens me up to new ideas for more work."
