Canada geese are a common sight around Vancouver - flocks of them can be seen eating, swimming, and flying in their distinctive “V” formation. They blend into the background and are often dismissed as ordinary waterfowl. However, geese can be very protective of what is theirs, as “My Territory” clearly shows. Anyone who has been accosted by a hissing, flapping, angry goose knows that when a confrontation arises, the smart one backs down and lets the goose win! Equipped with a sharp bill and powerful wings, the goose can transform into a fierce fighter when threatened, although these animals will not attack unless provoked. This sandcastle creator has unwittingly wandered into foreign territory, and his surprise is obvious in his posture as the goose warns him to back off. “My Territory” serves as an excellent reminder to give nature its space and be aware of our surroundings before wandering into danger.
