Perhaps one of the most beautiful spots in the Jasper Parkway is Mt. Edith Cavell reflecting upon Cavell Pond below. Breathtaking reflections are cast upon the lake capturing the rich hues of golds and teals as the spell binding view of this quiet lake provides a tranquil, mesmerizing and almost hypnotic spell to visitors.
The mountain commemorates the British Nurse, Edith Cavell, who is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers of both sides during WWI. Charged with treason, arrested and executed by the Germans, her strong Anglican beliefs propelled her to help all those in need. The church of England commemorates her in the Calendar of Saints on Oct 12 each year. Mt. Edith Cavell is the highest Mountain visible from Jasper townsite and the most prominent peak in Alberta renamed in 1916 after the British Nurse.
