As we stand to cast our gaze on the grandeur of the majestic mountains and clear, cold lakes of Western Canada, at our feet are wondrous microcosms of untold beauty, often trodden under foot and ignored. This painting depicts just a few square inches of such beauty - the original flowers are just 1/2 inch across. I've entitled it 'Power of Five' because each flower has 5 petals, there are 5 flowers and it is a 5-power magnification. Painted with a modified Zorn limited palette and Rosemary & Co. mongoose brushes.

Working with a limited palette of 4 colors I attempt to provide a realistic rendering of my subjects which include portraits, landscapes, florals, still life arrangements and the odd architectural structure.
"I treat every painting as a portrait in an attempt to bring to the canvas the life and essence of the subject whether a human face or something from the natural world. Each subject speaks to me in a unique way."
