When an orchid sits around the house for very long it begins to ask, in a low but persistent murmur, to be painted. The elegance of the orchid is complemented by the cut glass goblet and the wine bottle subtly suggested with minimal definition. The background of black draped cloth stands in stunning contrast to the white blossoms and provides reflected light tinting those blossoms in the shadows.
