Storm clouds over Lake Ontario, thunder in the distance enticed me to Burlington Beach where I studied the scene with pastels and watercolour wash capturing the brilliant blues and ever changing sky as the wind gusted. The final oil painting was completed in my studio.

Working primarily in oils I paint with loose gestural brushwork on canvas or panel after I have developed value and compositional sketches with pastel, ink and watercolour. Larger paintings are developed in the studio based on site work.
"Much of my inspiration is found in nature where I seek out the silence sitting by the lake at first light, watching the sun rise, and the mist slowly clear. Many of my pieces are painted on location. Painting at low light under an immense ever changing sky is glorious."
