About the Artwork

I have spent every summer of my life in the North Okanagan at a cabin on a lake that my grandparents purchased in the 50's. I walk the beach and back trails daily and paint various scenes of my day. This is a familiar spot near my favourite summer friend's cabins. I took this photo at the beginning of last summer and it represents what Canada feels like for me.

Monique Froehler

North Saanich, British Columbia

Monique has been a plein-air painter since she was 4 years old which began at her grandparents summer cabin in the Okanagan in response to wild and wooly summer storms. She loves to paint in the changing moods of the outdoors as well as working in her studio.

"Making art is Monique’s response to her daily landscape and her memories. Her work is often based in nostalgia that she likes to refer to in her pieces. Art keeps her present and grounded in her busy daily life."
