About the Artwork

The long goodbye of dementia, or Alzheimer’s, eroded away my Mom’s memories and language, and yet I could be grateful for the light and love that shone through despite this horrible disease, that has recently taken her away from us. I have gratitude for the good days, for her smile and for the all of the times I got to hold her hand and give her hugs. It was an honour to care for her as she cared for me when I was an infant, yet without language, or memories, but full of light and love for her. Although her smile wasn’t the same as pre-dementia, her eyes still held that twinkle, that spark of who she was. Rest easy, my sweet Mom.
