This piece started as an exploration of phthalo green and quinacridone magenta. I knew that birch bark would be involved but that was the extent of my plan. I added in some stenciled watercolour paper of my own creation, which brought orange to the canvas. Then some ink lines. My process with these pieces is very intuitive and I try to not overwork them. I nearly edited out the strong horizontal shape in the bottom third as I thought it was too jarring. Now it's my favorite part of this piece.
