This area and much of Bylot Island has been set aside as a sanctuary for nesting birds. Thousands of natural perches on the cliffs and the rich ocean nutrients below attract many species every summer. Arctic terns and others are pictured here on the right, swirling near the cliff. The vast and largely unexplored interior of Bylot Island - and it's future - are suggested in the misty distance beyond. This painting is inspired by my support of Canada's conservation efforts in the Arctic.
