This streetcorner fish vendor in a busy, grimy section of Alexandria caught my interest. Low rays spotlit the figure and caught the delicate pink shimmer of the fish, casting a pattern of beautiful long shadows. The rickety, well-used crates glowed golden while the man and his depleted stock suggest several interpretations, which I think add to the enjoyment of a painting long after you first encounter it.
