This piece depicts the magnificent cottonwood trees along the Nechako River in Prince George, BC. There is a beloved river trail system on the Nechako River which runs through Cottonwood Island Nature Park, following the Nechako until it enters the Fraser River, and continues to Lheidli T'enneh Memorial Park and beyond. These old cottonwoods are sometimes protected from the beavers by four feet of chicken wire up the trunks, but many are not. Sometimes the beavers get them down and strip all the branches. They feel like precious old friends and I'm always a bit sad when one succumbs to the elements, river erosion, or the beavers.
