While in London UK, my husband and I attended performances of many symphony orchestras, but we especially enjoyed the London Philharmonic in Royal Festival Hall. We sat in the front row where we could easily watch the expressions of a few of the double base players (their were 8!) They were a spirited group and before the start were talking among themselves as if to ask which pub they could go after the performance.
