During my evening walks I often sketch the remarkable firs in my small field sketchbook. I am familiar with many of them as I play golf often. So many trees, especially firs, struggle in the golf course open fields and develop leans and remarkable shapes. Pleased with the sketch and watercolor I had just finished I have turned to capture another nearby. Only plein air allows us to use our vision selectively. Only the tree mattered hence I left everything else out. I love how there is so much white around the tree emphasizing its shapes created by years of

Born in Wrocław, Poland, Dorota studied architecture before immigrating to Canada in 1981. She earned her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Toronto and later taught at Mohawk College in Hamilton. Now retired in Nanoose Bay, she enjoys painting, gardening, and sailing. Trained in drawing, watercolor, acrylic, and oil, Dorota finds joy in creating works that reflect natural beauty and bring color to life.
