About the Artwork

During my evening walks I often sketch the remarkable firs in my small field sketchbook. I am familiar with many of them as I play golf often. So many trees, especially firs, struggle in the golf course open fields and develop leans and remarkable shapes. Pleased with the sketch and watercolor I had just finished I have turned to capture another nearby. Only plein air allows us to use our vision selectively. Only the tree mattered hence I left everything else out. I love how there is so much white around the tree emphasizing its shapes created by years of winds in the open grass fields. I felt no background, nor foreground, hence left them out of the picture. This painting is a second in what seems to be a nice set of two plein air impressions and a memento of a very special evening.
