In her poem, ‘One Summer Day’, Mary Oliver poses the question, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” That line has always moved and inspired me. As I created this painting, it seemed to evoke both the bright burgeoning promise of Springtime, and the golden elegiac tones of Autumn. In that span of seasons, and the sense of time passing so quickly, Oliver’s words sang back to me with a poignant urgency.
