In this painting I played with contrasts—organic shapes and linear edges, saturated colour and muted tones, small marks and large, surface and depth. I used tinted charcoal over acrylic paint to create veils of sheer colour that hint at hidden stories, both insubstantial and enduring. The process and result evoked a sense of vintage and fractured nostalgia, hence the title, Old Muslin, Torn Velvet.
