For me, paper has evolved from simply being a substratum upon which to paint, to becoming a sculptural feature in itself. In Furtive Glimpses, I added the textural element of layering string between sheets of sheer paper, creating something of a quilted effect. Thin veneers of acrylic paint were added then peeled back, leaving a damaged marbled effect and random torn gaps seem to offer stolen glimpses into some other space, another time. The layering of paper on top of other papers with various degrees of transparency, suggests a history with a ghostly past.
