Hulya Guler

Ottawa, Ontario

Hulya Guler is a Canadian artist based in Ottawa, working in oil, watercolour, and pen & ink. Her artwork bridges impressionism and surrealism, drawing on life, memory and imagination rather than photographic references. She works across portraits, figures, and landscapes, often creating narrative paintings that unfold slowly over time. With a Ph.D. in physics, Hulya brings a contemplative, analytical lens to the visual world. Her philosophy centers on the belief that art should last, both materially and emotionally, and that meaningful work emerges from stillness, attention, and lived experience. Her paintings are held in private collections across Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
"I am fascinated by the ability of certain paintings to create a lasting image in the mind of the viewer. The image is not spelled out but is merely suggested and it remains intact in the viewer’s mind for decades. This is what I hope to accomplish with my paintings."
