I will often find a photo that has similar characteristics to an abstract I have produced but a plan was never in place for this to happen. I think my subconscious selects the shapes, colours and textures. I called this painting “Tofino Surf” because it had that feel of the moody ocean and trees of Canada’s west coast in December. After showing some of my family the progression photos, Emilie (aged 12) simply looked at the finished painting photo and said, “Oh they are Spirit Trees”, so I renamed it.
