Elisabeth Sommerville SFCA
Vancouver, British Columbia
Elisabeth Sommerville graduated from the Alberta College of Art. After a career in graphic design, she studied printmaking and found that stone lithography best complemented her drawing skills. After twenty years drawing and printing lithographs, its physical demands made it difficult to continue. Elisabeth now works in her home studio painting with egg tempera and drawing with coloured pencils. Her Métis heritage clearly engendered her choice of subject matter: landscapes, trees and birds, especially crows and owls.
Besides her SFCA Signature Status, she was chosen as an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists. Her work is in collections in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and the USA.

I've wanted to be an artist for as long as I can remember. I've never developed a loose, spontaneous like many painters. I prefer meticulous detail and happily spend weeks doing a single work of art. I love crows and owls which I return to as subjects again and again.
