This painting is based on photographs that I took of a grouping of statues called "A-mase-ing Laughter" by artist Yue Minjun. They are located in Morton Park overlooking English Bay. The statues are of 14 large images of the artist himself laughing hysterically. They are now part of the City of Vancouver's public art displays and are very popular with children and tourists. This grouping of statues quickly became one of the city's most recognizable pieces of outdoor art. On a long curving bench adjacent to the bronze statues the words "May this sculpture inspire laughter, playfulness and joy in all who experience it" are on display.
