The Cherry trees at Government House are so gorgeous. I stood in the Iris garden pathway and painted them over a period of a week, going back at the same time to get the exact lighting conditions. It was a little chilly that year, so the blooms remained on the trees longer and as they fell, created a soft pink carpet. I also wanted to include the Lieutenant Governor’s car which sat undisturbed in the old garage.

Painting from life has always fascinated me. I love seeing flower petals animated by gentle breezes or inhaling the deeply scented perfume of colourful iris and rose blooms, as they “pose” before me under dappled sunlight.
"My primary objective when painting on location, is to seize the drama - a specific group of flowers or landscape into a lively composition."
