De Courcy Island, one of the smaller of the Gulf Islands near Nanaimo, BC, has an abundance of Arbutus trees growing along the rocky bluffs. This painting was created using a liquid oil reactive paint which produces a number of different effects such as lacquered, marbled, hammered or honeycombed. This bright textured paint was ideal to depict the characteristic peeling burnt orange bark of the arbutus trees.
