Strolling alongside the Bow River in Canmore we came upon a herd of ten or more elk grazing peacefully in a section of dry river bed. With the Three Sisters towering on the horizon, and passersby stopping to watch, the elk appeared to feed peacefully, though always under the watchful eye of the bull elk who guarded from the perimeter of the trees.
