About the Artwork

Since the early 70s my watercolours have explored creating with flat brushes to form representational images with graph like patterns. The flat brushes created my abstracted pixillated images long before pixillation became a word. Their complex colouring is achieved with many layers of isolated transparent glazes. Organic objects develop as the various shapes are formed from a single stroke dictated by the size of brush used. The constant goal, to make each transparent glaze work with its neighbour.

"Log In" has an initial layer of weathered log that deliberately contrasts with the hard rock outcrops of the surrounding shore. The log, stuck against the rock and shallow muddy lake bottom appears instead to be leaping out of the warm water in a high noon sun.
