The Only Sea Foods neon sign was a Vancouver icon on East Hastings Street. It is an example of the signs that used to line the city's streets in the neon golden age of the 1940's and 50's. This part of the city was at one time the main shopping and entertainment area. Vancouver was considered second to Las Vegas for its number of neon signs at that time. However, Vancouver's anti-neon sign laws have reduced the number of neon signs to just a few that survive today. The Only Sea Foods restaurant has been out of business for a number of years and the building it was in has been demolished. However, the sign has been put into storage. The City of Vancouver hopes that someday a new restaurant will open that will want to bear the same name and have the sign taken out of storage and re-installed.
