Not For Sale
At age eleven I moved to Calgary with my family from communist Romania.
I was so excited and nervous at the same time.
At that time I couldn’t speak English and was very nervous attending a new school.
Some of the students were laughing and teasing me, it wasn’t a good start to the new life in Canada.
There was only one person that was kind towards me, her name was Valery.
I was taken how soft spoken, graceful and beautiful she was it was the first time I saw a black person.
We both had something in common that bonded us, we both crossed the Atlantic Ocean, from two separate continents Valery came from Africa.
I tried numerous times to find her but no luck.
I often wonder where she is, what does she do, what she looks like I can only use my imagination to keep my connection with my dear friend Valery.
