About the Artwork
This started as an abstract and I began to see a face of an indigenous man. I felt a heavy grief over the news about the graves of the residential school children. So when this emerged in my work, I followed with my heart. At times I honestly felt near tears as he emerged. There is lots of symbolism with in it. The split between near white skin and the more traditional skin tone, the landscape of forested areas, the orange bricks of the residential schools all merging and overlapping. It was a very meaningful process for me.
