I painted this mamma grizzly and her three cubs in rich earthy tones and a little looser brush stokes than I normally use. It represents for me the essence of motherhood and the lessons that are necessary for our youth's survival. I loved how she patiently waited as the dug up roots and played, as if that was all there was to do. There seemed to be a contentment in it that I related to and wanted to capture. A simple, ordinary and necessary moment.
