The varied orientations of these figures express the many ways we move through the world: toward, away from, within, and beyond ourselves. Each body turns toward a different direction, suggesting the four cardinal points—north, south, east, and west…without representing any one direction literally. They are rather symbols of orientation, choice, and transition.

Victoria Mitchell
Vancouver, British Columbia
Victoria Mitchell explores emotional, visceral, and environmental sensitivities, through abstract and representational drawings and paintings. She is influenced by extensive studies of body structure and kinetics, and is strongly inspired by connections with our natural surroundings.
"While painting, I absorb into the exploration of environmental, physical & emotional dynamics. These expressions which might otherwise go undefined, demonstrate connections between these different realms of experience. The opportunity for introspection and sharing, brings me excitement and joy in the creation of each piece."
