This series is inspired by the drawings and notes found among some old family photos. My great uncle had drawn pictures and made notes about daily life and the radio programs he listened to on short wave radio. They were all created on the backsides of McDonald’s placements from the 1980s. I photocopied the papers to use as collage in this series and gave them an aged patina to reflect the time period. My intent was to give voice to his undiscovered artistic talent and tell a bit of his story. His use of cursive writing on the papers is reflected in the nondescript cursive writing on each painting which signifies this lost art. The titles for each piece are taken directly from his notes. History and memory are embedded in the layers and collage which are in turn, imbued with reverence and meaning.
