Inspired by a spectacular sunset I witnessed off the tempestuous north coast of the Yucatán Peninsula.

The day had been filled with thunderstorms, where thick black clouds suffocated the sky. But then, at the onset of night, the sun pierced through the darkness to reveal all its dazzling glory just before fading away below the horizon.

The moment was emotional and captivating, and I kept the experience within me so that I could paint it.
