"Reaching Out", this artwork, was created during total Lockdown from March to June up here, in Canada. Usually, at this time of the year, I seek help from my mother to prepare my garden. We exchange plants and shop for novelties that will help us bonify our sites. In the spring of 2020, none of this happened. The only connection I could have with her was on the phone.
Since my mother isn’t young anymore, it seemed to me that an antique phone would symbolize her. It was also for me a beautiful tribute to all aging people who found themselves alone. On a more personal level, pansy is my mom's favorite flower. In this piece, the handset represents my listening.
Each on our side, we were linked by a single thread.
The flowers, in our midst, spring from an impossible and unreal world... as the world appeared to me when I produced this painting.
