Inspired by the arrival of wild trumpeter swans on Wood Lake, to winter in Lake Country on their migration route.
I met them on the very first day of January, but they wintered in the region for a couple of months before heading out together on the next part of their journey.
The encounters with these huge and majestic birds in the wild, were memorable and exciting, unlike anything I had previously experienced with other types of swans.
Seeing the resilient and magnificent Trumpeters thriving in recovery, right here in B.C., offers encouragement as a symbol of hope for future generations.

In creating this artwork, I opted for simplicity, with swans as the focal point against a simple background transitioning from cerulean to white, placing the dominant swan within the whiter section of the canvas, to provide a natural spotlight in a story of the arrival and interaction. I am interested in creating paintings that resonate with our appreciation for beauty in ephemeral moments within enduring cycles; drawing attention to a delicate interplay of energy and timelessness.
