This semi-abstract piece was created in response to concerns about locked gates, ending caretaker programs, and urban development surrounding some local parks, including the one next to Neilson's home.
"I love our regional parks, for all they have to offer in all seasons, and I love how nature spills over the fence into our communities. First ideas for this project started with sketchbook drawings when I met two tiny but resilient baby birds on my side of the fence."

Susan Burnham Neilson
Kelowna, British Columbia
Susan Burnham Neilson, creates figurative, botanical, and lyrical paintings integrating precise realism in detail with abstraction, calm energy, and symbolism.
In her studio at the edge of a forest, Neilson’s art is inspired by connections with nature, thanks to parks that help to protect wildlife corridors in British Columbia.
""Through art, I celebrate subtle balance of order and disorder in nature. My work is inspired by the resilience of wild survivors and by intricate connections in ecosystems. Art is my way to share hope for the future, where change begins with caring. ""
